Starting a New Club

Starting a New Club

Why Get Involved?

Active participation in clubs and organizations is highly recommended for all students as a means of developing the whole person: body and soul; heart and mind.

Students may form new clubs as long as the clubs currently in existence are not meeting their interests or needs.

Students interested in starting a new club should contact the Clubs&Orgs intern and follow the steps below.

Step1: Getting Started - always begin with the end in mind...

  1. Is there an existing organization that would fill this need? Many clubs are open to suggestions for sub-clubs and new programs. Would the proposed idea fit into an already existing organization? Check out which clubs & organizations are active now!
  2. Is there a group of 勛圖厙 community members who are committed to this idea? How long might interest in this organization last?
  3. Will this organization be able to find others who have an interest in it to carry it beyond the present? Are all of the interested students seniors? Will graduation "wipe out" the group?
  4. Have the interested students given thought to some organizational goals and objectives? Have ideas been discussed about specific programs and activities? Planning now will help answer the questions necessary to apply for provisional recognition.

Step 2: Getting the Ball Rolling - email clubs@udallas.edu

After answering the following questions, students are ready to send the following to the Clubs&Orgs intern.

  1. Develop a Club Constitution: Using the Clubs Constitution Template, develop a constitution for your club/organization. Please remember to keep your mission specific!

  2. You'll also need the following in a pdf or word document:
    • Minimum of three student officers having completed at least one full semester at 勛圖厙
    • Minimum of 7 interested members
    • Faculty/Staff advisor
    • List of proposed meeting agendas/events held by the club

Step 3: Getting Final Approval from the OSL

In order to officially start the recommendation and approval process, the Student Activities Assistant will review the documents from Step 2 and you will need to wait for the following:

  1. Make revisions based on the Student Activities Assistant's recommendations, if any
  2. Student Government Administrative Functions Committee will receive the proposed Club documents for review. You may be called in front of the Senate to present the case for the new club.
  3. If approved by Student Government, the Dean of Students will receive your documents for review and approval.
  4. Once approved by the Dean of Students, the Student Activities Assistant will contact the newly instated club officers for training.
NOTE: YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO BE AN OFFICIAL CLUB UNTIL ALL THE STEPS AND CLUB TRAINING IS COMPLETE
