Teaching Philosophy:

My teacher strategy is one of engaging students. I rely on very little traditional lecturing and instead focus on in depth discussions and activity based learning. I try to engage every student in the classroom in some way every class period. It might be asking them to lead a discussion question, having them relate their internship experiences to what we are discussing or having them participate in a hands-on game. Students who are engaged and active in their learning are much more likely to be able to apply the theories and methods we learn in class in a real world work environment.

Research Areas:

My primary two research areas are in service quality and pedagogy. I explore how service firms can deliver quality and value to customers by researching what drives customer expectations and assessments of service quality. I investigate the relationships between service quality outcomes and firm performance, both at the customer level, such as driving customer satisfaction and behavior, and the firm level, driving profitability and revenue. On the pedagogy side my research is focused on how to drive student engagement in the classroom and the consequences of that engagement

Awards and Honors:

Recipient of the Haggarty Teaching Award and of multiple best paper awards at conferences.

Personal Statement:

I consider myself a life long learner and a true supporter of the liberal arts. I find that I am continually asking why and how? Whether it is asking why a particular teaching method is most effective or how to apply time honored principles in an ever changing world. My thirst for answers and knowledge continues to grow. And after a lifetime of studying, I find I am able to ask
better questions. I value how the liberal arts can be used as a powerful framework to helping me understand the world around me. So while I am a business professor, I often ask how ethics, literature catholic social teaching and philosophy can help me understand the business world around me.
